Empowering homeless women and their children to achieve permanent, independent living.

Lake County Haven for homeless women

“Quite simply, the Haven saved my life.”
~ former Lake County Haven resident

Lake County Haven is a social-service agency dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless women and children. We use education, employment, and life-skills training to help people move from homelessness to independence. Throughout this process, our goal is always the long-term stability and self-sufficiency of each person.

The mission of Lake County Haven is to empower homeless women and their children to achieve permanent, independent living. Founded in 1992, the Haven fulfills its mission by providing shelter, housing, and professional services in support of its residents and graduates. The agency has now served more than 900 people through its programs and services, the vast majority of whom have moved on to the next level of independent living.

There are hundreds of people who are homeless in Lake County on a given night. Many of those people are women and children. Some are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. Others are addicted to alcohol or drugs. Most are grappling with serious physical and mental health issues. Nearly all are unemployed, underemployed, heavily indebted, and/or unable to pay rent.

The Haven’s Transitional Shelter Program features a comprehensive array of services designed to transition people from homelessness to independence. Graduates of this program may continue to receive housing and services in the agency’s Transitional Housing Program if they need more time to accomplish all of their goals. Intensive Case Management and other services tie both programs together and offer current and former residents an abundance of opportunities to stabilize and improve their lives.

Through these interventions, the agency envisions its residents achieving long-term financial, employment, and domestic stability, positively influencing the futures of their children, and breaking their families’ intergenerational cycle of violence, addiction, and poverty. ♥
